Thursday Thoughts

Time for a Thursday Thoughts link up with Ramblings of a Suburban Mom!

-So, it is Friday, I know, but I was very busy yesterday with S. He woke up with a 102.5 fever so we called the doctor as he had had a (lower) fever the day before and it clearly wasn’t going away. They told me to bring him in right when the opened. Shortly after I hung up, S got sick all over me. Yup, calling the doctor was clearly the right decision. Anyway, long story short, he has a double ear infection. It is his first (and hopefully) last one. Yesterday was spent at the doctor, at the pharmacy, and then just making sure my kiddo was comfortable. Today he seems much better, though still clearly not 100%.

-On a more positive note, S got into the story time program at the library! I was a little late signing him up so we were on the waiting list. I was so excited to get the phone call that we were in! It’s once a week thru mid-May, and I couldn’t be happier about it. This week was our first class and S had a great time! They have it down to a science there from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave. Each week the kids get a stamp on their hand, listen to stories, play with the felt board, play a game, do an art project, get a sticker and sing hello/goodbye. Love it!

-I was pretty bummed about who was kicked off of King of the Nerds night. Actually, no. I was more bummed about who was NOT kicked off of King of the Nerds last night.

-S stayed home from daycare yesterday and I just know the new book order form is sitting in his locker waiting for us! The anticipation is driving me nuts!

-Is it just me or did January just seem to drag on and on? That blizzard that left me snowed in home alone with a toddler seems like ages ago! And it was only three weeks ago. Madness.

-I hope everyone has a great weekend!

January 2014 Citrus Lane Box

Citrus Lane is a monthly subscription box service geared toward kids ages 0-5. The items you receive are specifically selected for your child’s gender and age group.

S received the 26 month old boy box this month. Here is what was inside:

Shape Sorter from Plan Toys – At first I thought this was too young for S, but the fact that all of the shapes are tired together on a string makes it a little more challenging. We are keeping this in our travel bag for on-the-go fun.

Lunchie from Skip Hop – While I would have preferred the monkey to go with the monkey backpack we already have, S loved this and recognized that it “matched” his backpack. He insisted on storing this with his backpack immediately.

Fruit Pouch from Peter Rabbit Organics – S devoured this immediately. I guess he was hungry and that it was good!

Upset Tummy & Nausea Relief from Mommy’s Bliss – Haven’t had a reason to use this yet, but it is nice to have on hand. I’ll feel better about using this once S can say “My tummy hurts” though.

S continues to love receiving these boxes every month. It has become even more fun as now he happily yells “Open it!” when he sees the box and when things inside the box need further opening 🙂

January 2014 Sparaj Box

Sparaj is a monthly subscription box that delivers unique-to-Asia wellness products to your door each month. I enjoyed last month’s box so I was really excited to dive into this box the minute the mailman delivered it!

Thaniya Organic Soy Wax Candle – I received a ‘Sakura’ scented candle, which I would be totally in the dark about if we didn’t sing a song with the same title in elementary school. ‘Sakura’ means ‘Cheery blossom’ and this candle smells amazing. I really like the container it is in as well.

Karmakamet Secret World Herbal Inhaler – This is supposed to help relieve cold and flu symptoms, cough, headache, migraines and allergies if you inhale it. It seems like you are just supposed to open it up and smell it, which I can totally handle. The smell reminds me of Vick Vap-o-rub.

Thann Oriental Essence Aromatherapy Salt Scrub – I am totally saving this for a time when I can enjoy it. IE, not a weekday morning when I am rushing through my shower!

Innisfree It’s Real Bija Mask – This is made with a blend of herb complex waters and other natural ingredients.

Karmakamet Secret World Aromatic Notebook – There is a little scented packet that goes in the back of this. Supposedly the scent will last 2-3 months. I think it is a really neat idea, and I can’t wait to have some notes worthy of recording in here!

Sparaj bag – I really like the bag this month. I’m going to use it to hold my makeup and/or for toiletries when we travel.

*I had a hard time finding links to these products this month. If you know of official websites, please let me know!

December 2013 Citrus Lane Box

Citrus Lane is a monthly subscription box service geared toward kids ages 0-5. The items you receive are specifically selected for your child’s gender and age group.

S received the 25 month old boy box this month. Here is what was inside:

Handprint Art Kit from Pearhead – I was excited to receive this kit in our box. It included pink and blue paints, a tray for the paint and the canvas. I decided to use it to make snowflake art with S instead of the handprints though. I used painter tape to block off a snowflake shape and then let S go to town with blue paints to cover the canvas. I peeled the tape off when it dried to reveal the snowflake. It worked pretty well, though some paint leaked under the tape.

Chunky Puzzle from Melissa & Doug – S loves puzzles so this was great for us. I actually tried to buy this puzzle over a garage sale over the summer, but the lady was so snooty about it that I decided to leave it there. And now we have a brand new one instead. Things have a way of working out.

I Took the Moon for a Walk from Barefoot Books – I thought the illustrations in this book were beautiful. S listened to the story once and then returned to asking for his old favorites instead. I think he would have been more into it if it ere about trains or snow plows.

Snuggly Lotion from Episencial – To be honest, we haven’t used this yet. S and I have sensitive skin and new lotions always make me a little leary. I have heard great things about this brand though, so we will probably try it out soon.

Thursday Thoughts

Time for a Thursday Thoughts link up with Ramblings of a Suburban Mom!

-I have been so bad about blogging lately. Almost all of my posts have just been Thursday Thoughts posts! At least it keeps me posting once a week, but I would like to post more.

-I have December AND January Citrus Lane, January Sparaj and January Love with Food to post about. I should really get on that.

-S is going to be in his aunt’s wedding this summer as the ring bearer, and my sister in law just sent me links to little suits to consider for him. He is going to be so cute! The problem is that he is still small, and most suits we have seen start at 2T. He still wears 18 month pants, so…yeah. It isn’t for another five months, so who knows how much he will grow in that time. Too bad Tuxedo Junction only rents suits size 4 and up, otherwise we’d be all set to get everything fitting just right on him!

-I made extra coffee for today hoping to get two full mugs (as opposed to barely one mug’s worth). B even commented last night how he usually makes six cups when he noticed I had set it up for eight. And I still only ended up with one mug! Boo. B must be tired if he needed that extra coffee this morning.

-S’s first Parent-Teacher Conference went well. She said he is so much more happy and outgoing than he was when he started in September, and that he is right on track for where he needs to be. The only concern was that all of the boys in the class are into pushing each other and roughhousing, so I asked how she corrects it so I can use the same words at home. Oh, and I learned how much he likes to clean. Apparently if you wake up early from nap-time, you get to help ‘clean’ the classroom to keep busy while the other kids sleep. I was told S loves wiping down anything and everything with wet wipes. I put this to good use last night after dinner, letting S wipe the table, fridge, cabinets, walls, and whatever else he felt like while I washed dishes. And he was happy as a clam to do it! Go figure.

Happy Thursday everyone!

Time for a Thursday Thoughts link up with Ramblings of a Suburban Mom!

-When I picked S up at daycare on Tuesday I was told by one person that he is turning into quite the comedian and by another person that he is turning into quite the daredevil. I can only imagine what next week’s parent-teacher conference will reveal!

-Speaking of, I am surprised we are getting a parent-teacher conference! (All of the kids are.) I figured we’d get one when he got to preschool or kindergarten, but he is only in daycare. Should I be preparing for this with questions and such? And if so, what kind of questions?

-I still haven’t done a review of the December Citrus Lane box and our January one should be here today. Oops! I think I’ll be posting them both next week.

-I went out for coffee with some of my best friends on Tuesday, and we were reminiscing about “The Old Days”, specifically about this locker note scandal in eighth grade where a bunch of girls got these really mean notes in their lockers. To this day we don’t know who did it but we all have different ideas about who did it and we are super curious to solve the mystery. Maybe the culprit will confess on Facebook. Probably not, but it would be nice!! No one is mad about it any more, of course, and we just want to know!

Happy Thursday!

December 2013 Hammock Pack

Hammock Pack is a monthly subscription box service that sends everything you need to take a mini getaway without actually going away! Hammock Pack costs $25/month plus $5 shipping. They ship USPS priority mail and it is the fastest box I get each month. Everything else takes about a week, but Hammock Pack takes two days, which I love!

I should mention that this pack arrived on time in December, and it is me who is behind on posting a review! The holidays will do that to a person sometimes!

December 2013 Hammock Pack

December’s theme was “Our Favorites” featuring favorite products from this past year’s boxes. Here is what was inside:

Ticket Kitchen Grasshopper Pie Bar and Hot Chocolate on a Stick – Both of these were delicious! I was a little skeptical of the hot chocolate on a stick because mine was 3 chili flavored, but it was actually really good!

Baggu Reusable Tote Bag – This has already come in handy! It is the perfect size for all of the things S ‘needs’ for sleeping (pillow, blanket, star projector night light, three stuffed animals) so we put it to good use when we traveled to Grandma and Grandpa’s over the holidays.

Lark Fine Foods Krinkle Cookies – These are really good. They are super crispy, but you can get around that by dunking them in a glass of milk!

Firebird Bath & Body Body Lotion – This smells really good – almost like minty baby lotion, and it is a super soft lotion as well. I really like that it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin.

Sweet Lydia’s Mint Chip S’more – This is the only thing that hasn’t been used/eaten yet. I think I will be passing it B’s way since he likes marshmallow 100xs more than I do.

I really liked this month’s box, and everything was new to me even though I have received all of the Hammock Packs since June 2013.

Did you get the December Hammock Pack? What did you think? What flavor hot chocolate did you get? What pattern is your Baggu? I heard there were some cute ones sent out!
